Watch: Hot knife cotton experiment - online

A glowing hot knife is pressed against a package of cotton batting or cotton wool. The high temperature of the blade makes the cotton ignite almost instantly, and flames move quickly through the loose fibers. The test shows how easily cotton, still partly enclosed in plastic packaging, can catch and burn when touched by very hot metal.
